Resumo em outra língua: This work investigates, initially, the Ouro Preto-urban space and the dichotomies that permeate its history and its territory, over the years, particularly: institutionalized and experienced Heritage; the differences between the central area (historic center) and the peripheral neighborhoods; the different social actors and their dynamics; the idealized and the real landscape and, finally, mass culture and popular culture. After the study and the characterization of these ambivalences, two were listed to be deepened and applied in the case study, they are the differences between the central area and a peripheral area and mass culture and popular culture, in this case the emphasis is given to popular culture. The case study is the Morro São Sebastião neighborhood, chosen because it is very representative in relation to the dichotomies mentioned. In addition, it should be noted that Ouro Preto “was born” from the occupation of the hills of Serra de Ouro Preto and not from the Center. Thus, in relation to the object of research, urban analysis allowed us to understand the formation of popular culture in that place and how it was influenced by territorials nuances. The following are some aspects that can exemplify this fact. The neighborhood, unlike the others in the Serra de Ouro Preto, was occupied late, which contributes to what area remains, for a time, "isolated" from the rest of the city, thus creating its own dynamics and habits. The first residents came from small districts and maintained their rural customs, especially those linked to close relations with their neighbors, which are of paramount importance for the materialization of the festivities, characterized by commensality, the act of sharing and socializing through food. In addition, it is noted that the community organization was responsible for articulating the “struggle”, for the most part, of urban improvements in the neighborhood, so once again culture is present. Furthermore, Morro São Sebastião is part of the Serra de Ouro Preto Ecomuseum, a project that seeks to rescue and celebrate popular culture, this concept is based on three pillars: the lived space (territory), society and heritage, once again culture is fond of the territory. Finally, making an allusion to Santos (2012) in the neighborhood, culture and territoriality are synonymous.
